Field to Fork

Our Field to Fork educational tours show young people where their food comes from by bringing the journey to life.

We’re passionate about healthy eating and doing what we can to make a difference. Helping children understand where their food comes from and the importance of healthy eating is a vital part of this approach.

We launched our Field to Fork tours in June 2008, building the tour and accompanying materials around the requirements of the National Curriculum, in conjunction with educational experts. Since that time, over 700 local school children have visited our sites to learn about the journey their food makes.

Learning how salad is grown

Children spend half a day with one of our growers discovering how lettuce crops are planted, grown and harvested and how the salad travels from the field to their fork. Our Product Managers are ready to answer questions and explain every aspect of the process, from farming to manufacturing.

The tour culminates in a session in our innovation kitchen, where children learn about healthy eating, have an opportunity to sample a huge selection of ingredients, some very familiar and some less so, and then make up their own bag of salad to take home.

At the end of the visit children receive a free 'goody bag' to take home, which includes recipe cards, a bug identification leaflet with magnifying card and lettuce seeds to grow at home.

In addition to the tours, we have an interactive Field to Fork site, which is a fun virtual tour with a quiz at the end.

We also offer specialised and subject-specific visits to our sites for educational purposes. For students aged 15 years and over, we provide a bespoke presentation and guided tour around our Selsey manufacturing unit.

The visit to Natures Way Foods was informative and the students gained a great deal out of the experience. It allowed them to put all the theoretical information they received into a practical and more memorable context. A thoroughly worthwhile visit.
